The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 was recently passed by the parliament. The Act provides a path to Indian citizenship for select religious communities from three neighbouring countries.

Its passage has triggered (ongoing) mass student-led protests with many calling it unconstitutional, while the government claims that most protesters have misunderstood the Act.
